In longer: The transfer of technology between lifeforms and manufactured objects is desirable because evolutionary pressure typically forces living organisms to become optimized and efficient. Therefor if we recognice and apply natures ingenuity we can reduce the stress put on the environment by us.
Bionics or biologically inspired engineering is the application of biological methods and systems found in nature to the design of engineering systems and modern technology.
We study natural occurring phenomena and by doing so abstract how to improve our designs. In going through this process over and over again we end up with a sulution more in tune with it’s surrounding.

First things first. How do we want to launch ELBIONIC?
We start our journey by praising the sun. The sun with its life supporting characteristics stands in the beginning of all our efforts. The energy, which the sun radiates, is one of the essential building blocks for life on Earth as the scientific community defines it right now.
We intend to transform this energy source in various ways to make our world a better place for as many people as possible. We start by converting radiation from the sun into electrical energy. This electrical energy can then be transformed further to do all kinds of tasks for us. From helping us grow our food, to keeping our water fresh and clean, to powering our communication and transporting systems.
To use the suns ratiation, we make use of the photovoltaic effect. Specially designd materials create a potential difference in them while they are exposed to light. This effects physical principles are further described by clicking on the scematic below. ELBIONIC currently looks for use cases where to implement this effect and how to optimize its various applications with regard to the underlying natural phenomena called photosynthesis. This natural phenomena occours e.g. in leafs and builds there sugars with the help of sunlight.
If you look at leaves, they are highly flexible. They also degrade naturally and while doing so release nutrients back into the soil. We strive to incorporate these basic ideas into our flexible photovoltaic sun blind as good as possible. To do that we look closely at the newly emerging technologies regarding cell manufactoring. This involves especially organic solar cells.

How can you make use of the photovoltaic effect?
The first prototype of a sun blind, which has flexible photovoltaic cells, on top, can be seen in the pictures above. The angle of the whole sun blind can be changed to maximize the yield.
